Dentistry Degree Programs in Australia

Employment in dentistry is expected to grow about as fast as average for all occupations through the year 2014. Most jobs will result from the need to replace the large number of dentists projected to retire. Job prospects will be good and the demand for dentists will continue to grow as the population ages and requires more dental care.

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad assists students with degree abroad opportunities at more than 35 universities in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K. Our expertise has developed from our well-established relationships with our partner universities and more than 20 years of sending students abroad. These top-ranked universities have appointed us to provide you with information on living and studying at their university, and we can easily refer you to the applications and details you need in order to apply to the universities of your choice.  Enrollment is ultimately determined by each institution.

We are here to provide you with a list of bundled services, including help with your housing, travel and living abroad.  We will be working with you from the time you begin your search for a program until you depart for your degree abroad.

Most dental programs in Australia are offered at the undergraduate level, meaning that student can apply for entry directly from high school. Canadian and American students who have partially or fully completed an undergraduate degree, however, can also apply to these Bachelor level programs. Two exceptions are the University of Sydney and University of Melbourne, both offering graduate entry options. Programs range from 4 to 5 years in length.

Please note that depending on the program, MCAT, Canadian DAT or U.S. DAT results may be required.

TRANSFER OF QUALIFICTIONS BACK TO CANADA

Effective March 31, 2010, a reciprocal agreement was reached between the Australian Dental Council and the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC), promising recognition to Canadian and Australian graduates from accredited programs for certification and licensure. This ensures that Canadians who have completed an Australian dental school will be deemed to have the same credentials as Canadian and American dental school graduates.

This new agreement eliminates the bridging program that has been required in past years. Instead, Canadians with Australian dental qualifications (as of March 2010) will be required to complete the licensure process that is in place for Canadian dental school graduates.”

Canadian graduates from an Australian dental program will be required, upon return to Canada, to apply to the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (www.ndeb.ca) for degree recognition and eligibility to practice.
