Environmental and Natural Resources Degree Programs at La Trobe University

 

La Trobe’s department of Environmental Management & Ecology is located at the Albury-Wodonga campus of La Trobe University, in north-eastern Victoria, adjacent to the Murray River. The Department's core offering is a 3-year Bachelor of Science program in natural resource management, ecology and pollution control.

The Department of Environmental Recourses is housed in the Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering. The Faculty is highly regarded by students for the accessibility of lecturers, relaxed nature of the departments and emphasis on building communication skills for success in the workplace. La Trobe University’s engineering programs are also revered for the emphasis on green technologies, including the introduction of a “Green Stream” into its undergraduate teaching.

WHAT SETS THIS FACULTY APART

  • As a major component of the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management and Ecology is the compulsory placement (160 hours) where they can experience actual management issues or relevant resource management research activities and contribute to the function of the host organisation.
  • The Department offers field excursions in first year, second year and third year units. These include practicals on the Murray River floodplain and excursions throughout Victoria.
  • The Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering offers programs combining paid industry experience with tertiary study across different areas of science. The placements are individually tailored to the needs of participating employers, and can take place during semester breaks, or as block placements.
Academic Highlights

The Department of Electronic Engineering is introducing a “Green Stream” into its undergraduate teaching. Students will have access to the University’s Photovoltaic Power Station to gain hands-on practical experience with solar power generation.
