PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Master of Urban Horticulture (MSLE) The Master of Urban Horticulture is a graduate coursework program developed specifically for those seeking professional employment or developing research careers in urban horticulture. Core studies are offered in the areas of ecology and environments, landscape management, plant production and establishment, horticultural science, urban flora, and either project management, social research or experimental design and statistics. Graduate Environmental Program, offered through the Office of Environmental Programs (MSLE) The Graduate Environmental Program is an innovative postgraduate coursework program. It offers a range of degrees and a flexible curriculum, with a choice of over 160 subjects from ten different Faculties. Part and full-time study options are available. Students are free to design their own course with our assistance, or to choose from one of eleven specialist streams. Master of Forest Ecosystem Science (MSLE) The Master of Forest Ecosystem Science (MFES) is a coursework degree that prepares students for careers in the forest and natural resource management sectors. Taught mainly in intensive two-week blocks with supplementary off-campus study, MFES allows flexibility for part-time or remote study, or rapid completion. MFES offers a range of core subjects including Bushfire Planning and Management and Forest Ecosystems. Coursework incorporates internships with forest sector agencies, forest related industries and NGO’s leading to strong industry connections and employment prospects. Master of Science (Earth Sciences) The Master of Science (Earth Sciences) offers two streams; one in Atmospheric Science and the other in Geology. Core studies include exciting fields such as hydrogeology, digital geoscience, atmospheric dynamics, atmospheric-ocean interaction and climate analysis. In both streams students undertake core and elective coursework subjects, at least one Professional Tool subject of choice, and a substantial research project. The MSc (Earth Sciences) is a postgraduate coursework program which offers eligibility for PhD studies through the research project. Master of Science (Environmental Science) Environmental Science applies scientific principles to understanding and managing the natural and built environment. Students will undertake core studies in global environmental change, environmental risk assessment, monitoring and audit as well as a wide range of electives. Students acquire the analytical techniques employed in environmental science, and through project work, have the opportunity to draw on the skills and experience of leading university and industry environmental scientists. A key feature of this course is provision of business and communications subjects as well as core science. Master of Science (Geography) Geography at Melbourne is among the top-ranking programs of its kind in Australia and New Zealand. The MSc program in geography allows students the flexibility to pursue interdisciplinary studies while gaining an essential grounding in the core discipline of geography. Subjects include Climate Change Politics and Policy, Hazardous Coasts, Global Environment and Sustainability, Development and Environment in China. Many of our graduates find work in government departments and private industry, as well as NGOs, international organisations and private consultants in environmental management and planning.
