The program has been developed with extensive input and support from industry and reflects the current state of play in environmental management and sustainability in Australia and internationally Postgraduate studies in Environmental Management and Sustainability at the University of South Australia have been designed to develop the skills necessary to perform as a professional in the field of environmental management and sustainability. Developed from industry’s demand to meet the growing diversity of responsibilities and challenges encountered by managers in this field and the growing demand for skilled resource management practitioners, this new program explores the theory and practice of managing and sustaining our natural environment. The program has been designed for those already working in the natural resource management area who want to broaden their skill base, and for those with generic undergraduate education (such as engineering) who are interested in moving into the natural resource management area. The program has been developed with extensive input and support from industry, who have been involved in the design of course content and delivery methods. An industry based advisory group has also been established to oversee the delivery and application of the program to ensure it continues to meet industry standards. In addition to this, some of the courses are delivered by industry practitioners from across various government departments as well as private enterprise. |  | Natural Resource Management Stream The strand provides professionals in the Natural Resource Management agencies and industry with the opportunity to develop a new range and skills and understandings relevant to their profession. It provides an introduction to the basic concepts and theoretical underpinnings of Environmental Management and Sustainability with a focus on developing a basic skill‑set in these areas and the opportunity to choose a set of courses that suit their particular professional needs and interests. Geospatial Science Stream The Geospatial Science Stream is aimed at professionals who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in GIS, Remote Sensing and spatial analysis and modelling to an advanced level. The contemporary content reflects the current state of play in environmental management and sustainability in Australia and internationally and creates work ready professionals ready to meet the challenges of modern day resource management. Water Management Stream The management of water resources is one of the most important aspects in achieving a sustainable future. This stream enables student to develop their skills and knowledge in such areas as flood control and mitigation, water quality control and modelling, waste water management and hydrology Urban Ecology Stream As more and more people live in urban environments it becomes increasingly important to manage the urban ecosystem. This stream enables student to develop an understanding of the role of plants and wild animals in the ecology of cities and their management. It provides students with an understanding of the ecological principles and environmental management practices involved in greening cities by means of biodiversity conservation and restoration projects, as well as the skills to develop and sustain effective partnerships with government, business/industry and the wider community. Entry requirements Applicants are required to hold a recognised University undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification or five years relevant industry experience.
