Environmental and Natural Resources Degree Programs at Massey University

The Massey College of Sciences’ significant contribution to New Zealand and International scientific knowledge provides a context for graduate and postgraduate study lead by scientists with international standing.

One example includes; Massey’s Institute of Natural Resources is developing new techniques for understanding and monitoring geologic mass-flows. The new monitoring systems will be tested in the lab as well as at New Zealand’s Mount Ruapehu and a debris flood-prone area in Indonesia, and results will form a globally unique dataset to enable the testing of evolving scientific hypotheses of sediment-water flow mechanics.

Massey University's Manawatu campus at Palmerston North is the home of a new Life Cycle Assessment Centre focused on managing New Zealand's environmental footprint - from greenhouse gas emissions to water use. As well as ensuring New Zealand manages its natural resources responsibly, the Centre also supports the economy by enabling producers to meet the needs of the “green” consumer, a market growing rapidly worldwide. The University was awarded this role in by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to co-ordinate New Zealand efforts in the sector.
