Utilize your Post 9/11 GI Bill in Australia, New Zealand or the United Kingdom The Post-9/11 GI Bill is for individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The Post-9/11 GI Bill went into effect on August 1, 2009. Our office is also happy to assist anyone looking to use the Montgomery GI Bill abroad. GlobaLinks Learning Abroad is happy to assist members of the United States military looking to use their GI Bill at any of our partner universities in Australia, New Zealand or the United Kingdom who are Title IV approved by the U.S. Department of Education. We are here to provide you with a list of FREE bundled services, including help with your housing, travel and living abroad. We will be working with you from the time you begin your search for a program until you depart for your degree abroad. This Post 9/11 GI Bill will pay eligible individuals: - Tuition & fees directly to the school not to exceed the maximum in-state tuition & fees at a public Institution of Higher Learning.
- A monthly housing allowance based on the Basic Allowance for Housing for an E-5 with dependents at the location of the school.
- An annual books & supplies stipend of up to $1,000 USD paid proportionately based on enrollment in the first month of each academic term.
- A $500 USD one-time rural relocation benefit payment for eligible individuals.
NOTE: The Post - 9/11 benefit payments are tiered based on the amount of creditable active-duty service you have since September 10, 2001. Tuition and fee rates for those attending a foreign school are now capped at $17,500 USD annually. Service members currently on active duty and veterans taking courses at a half-time basis do not qualify for the monthly housing stipend. To find out if you qualify, visit the VA website (www.gibill.va.gov) or phone 1-888-GI-BILL-1 (1 888 442 4551) to speak with a Veterans' Benefits Counselor. How much you are entitled to will depend on your service record. How to Use Your Benefits The Department of Veteran's Affairs will only approve programs of study in which U.S. Veterans are enrolled or interested in enrolling. Check the U.S. Dept. of Veteran Affairs website to see whether your preferred program of study is approved. Be sure to select the appropriate country and then enter the following details: - Institution: (Name of University you would like to attend)
- Programe Type: Institution of Higher Learning
After hitting the 'submit' button, a list of approved programs will appear. If your program of choice does not appear then it is not yet approved. If your program is not yet approved, please contact your coordinator to find out how you can apply for that program and who you need to speak with at the university. This may take some time, so please apply as early as possible. The average turn-around time for approval by the VA is 120-180 days for foreign schools. Most universities will not submit a program for VA approval unless you have applied and are accepted into that program. To apply for Veterans' education benefits, submit the appropriate application form to the Department of Veterans' Affairs. Information on the process and application forms are available at http://www.gibill.va.gov/Vet_info/OS_TrngV.htm. The Department of Veterans' Affairs will issue you with a Certificate of Eligibility. Send a copy to the financial aid administrator of the university (GlobaLinks Learning Abroad can do this on your behalf) and they will certify your enrolment with the Department of Veterans' Affairs. Should the benefits you qualify for be insufficient to meet your expected costs, then you may apply for US Financial Aid in the form of Stafford and PLUS loans. Interested in applying? Here are your next steps: You can also create a MyLearn account and utilize the Degree Finder to find your program of interest. You can then download the application to the university of your choice, and submit all documents to GlobaLinks Learning Abroad. We will assist you with the entire application process. If you have any questions about the application process or VA apporval process, please do not hesitate to contact our office at info@degreesoverseas.com or call 1-800-980-0033 and ask to speak with a degree coordinator. |
