Credit Transfer Information and Forms

Australian and New Zealand universities use a variety of terminology to refer to transfer credit.  These include the following: Advanced Standing, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit for Previous Study (CPS).

To gain credit for previous studies, students either make note of this intent on the university admissions application or lodge a separate transfer credit application altogether.  In either case, official transcripts and course outlines/syllabi need to accompany the request.  Some universities also require an assessment fee.  In many instances, the overseas universities will only award credit for previous studies at the undergraduate level.

The following institutions require students request transfer credit assessment on the application for admission:
  • Bond University
  • James Cook University
  • Massey University
  • Murdoch University
  • Queensland University of Technology*
  • University of Adelaide
  • University Auckland
  • University of Newcastle
  • University of Otago
  • University of South Australia
  • University of Tasmania
  • University of Wollongong
  • Victoria University of Wellington

* QUT requires course descriptions to include individual unit content (what did the student study?), unit duration and contact hours, and how the unit was assessed. Course descriptions must:

a) Have the relevant information printed on official University letterhead; or
b) Have an official letter from the University acknowledging the authenticity of the included syllabus/unit outlines.

Below are the universities that require a separate application be submitted.  Click on the university to download the transfer credit application/policy:
